Wimbledon qualifying 2026: British wins, early shocks and the road to the main draw

Wimbledon qualifying has begun at the Community Sports Centre in Roehampton, where players have three rounds to fight through for one of the final main-draw places at The Championships.

As of the morning of Tuesday 23 June 2026, the completed results so far are from Monday's gentlemen's qualifying first round. Ladies' qualifying begins today, with play scheduled from 11am BST, so those results are still to come.

For the British players, it was a strong opening day. Six British men reached the second round: Dan Evans, Billy Harris, Oliver Tarvet, Max Basing, Henry Searle and Paul Jubb.

Evans' win carried extra emotion. He has said this will be his final Wimbledon, but he kept his singles run alive with a 7-6(2), 6-3 win over Juan Carlos Prado Angelo. The first set was tight, but Evans found enough control in the tie-break and closed out the match in straight sets. He now faces Tristan Schoolkate, who beat British wildcard Johannus Monday 7-5, 6-3.

Henry Searle, the 2023 Wimbledon boys' singles champion, also made a confident start. He beat Zhizhen Zhang 6-3, 6-4, continuing a strong grass-court spell after winning the Dublin Challenger. Billy Harris was one of the most convincing British winners, beating Stefano Napolitano 6-2, 6-2.

Paul Jubb came through a tricky match against Pierre-Hugues Herbert, winning 7-5, 7-6(6), while Oliver Tarvet beat Alex Bolt 7-6(3), 7-5. Max Basing produced one of the best British comebacks of the day, defeating 10th seed Francesco Maestrelli 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-4.

There were British defeats too. Liam Broady lost a tight three-set match to August Holmgren, 7-6(6), 4-6, 7-5. Jay Clarke was edged out by 17th seed Andrea Pellegrino, 2-6, 7-6(5), 6-4. Oliver Crawford, Mark Ceban, Oliver Bonding, Johannus Monday and Anton Matusevich also went out in the first round.

Beyond the British results, there were some notable names moving through. China's Yunchaokete Bu continued his impressive grass-court form by beating Hugo Dellien 6-4, 6-0. ATP reported that Bu came into Roehampton after back-to-back Challenger titles in Birmingham and Ilkley, extending his winning run on grass.

Japan's Rei Sakamoto, one of the younger players to watch, beat Anton Matusevich 7-6(6), 3-6, 6-3. American Darwin Blanch also advanced, beating Filip Cristian Jianu 7-6(1), 6-4.

One of the biggest early exits was David Goffin. The former Wimbledon quarter-finalist lost to Andrea Guerrieri 3-6, 7-5, 6-2, opening up that section of the draw.
