Wimbledon set for opening day as Keys arrives with Eastbourne momentum

Wimbledon begins on Monday with a packed opening-day schedule at the All England Club and one of the final grass-court warm-up champions arriving in strong form.

The Championships run from Monday 29 June to Sunday 12 July, with the opening two days focused on the first round of the women’s and men’s singles before doubles events are added later in the week.

Day one is due to feature world No. 1 Jannik Sinner against Miomir Kecmanovic on Centre Court, followed by Aryna Sabalenka against Teodora Kostovic and Novak Djokovic against Yibing Wu. On No. 1 Court, Emma Raducanu is scheduled to open against Antonia Ruzic before Marin Cilic faces Daniil Medvedev and Magda Linette takes on Mirra Andreeva.

The British interest stretches well beyond the show courts. Cameron Norrie is listed against Michael Zheng on No. 2 Court, while Oliver Tarvet, Max Basing, Jack Pinnington Jones, Hannah Klugman, Mika Stojsavljevic, Alicia Dudeney, Mimi Xu, Harriet Dart and Francesca Jones are among the home players scheduled across the grounds on Monday.

The final weekend before Wimbledon also brought a notable result at Eastbourne, where Madison Keys beat Tatjana Maria 7-5, 6-4 to win the women’s title for a third time. The BBC and Tennis Majors both reported that Keys did not drop a set during the week, giving the American a useful lift before her Wimbledon opener against compatriot Kayla Day.

There was no need to force any wider conclusion from the warm-up events: Wimbledon’s first week often reshapes the grass-court picture quickly. But the combination of a loaded day-one order of play, British wild cards and qualifiers spread around the grounds, and Keys arriving with fresh title momentum gives SW19 an immediate set of storylines to follow.
