Watson, Harris, Tarvet and Basing move within one win of Wimbledon main draw

Heather Watson, Billy Harris, Oliver Tarvet and Max Basing reached the final round of Wimbledon qualifying at Roehampton, while Dan Evans' singles run ended against Tristan Schoolkate.

Four British players moved to within one victory of the Wimbledon main draw on a busy day of qualifying at Roehampton, with Heather Watson, Billy Harris, Oliver Tarvet and Max Basing all advancing to the final round.

The results sharpen the British storyline heading into the last stage of qualifying, where a place in the main draw of The Championships is on the line.

Watson produced the most dramatic British win of the day, coming through a three-set contest against Tatiana Prozorova 5-7, 6-3, 7-5. The LTA reported that Watson recovered from a break down in the second set and had to save two break points at 4-3 down in the decider before completing the comeback.

The former Wimbledon fourth-rounder will now try to secure a return to the main draw in her next match.

In the men's qualifying draw, Tarvet continued his run with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Alexis Galarneau. He is due to face Stefanos Sakellaridis for a place in the main draw.

Harris also moved through in straight sets, beating Hungary's Zsombor Piros 6-4, 6-4. The 31-year-old is chasing another Wimbledon main-draw appearance after reaching the second round at SW19 last year.

Basing remains in contention for a Wimbledon debut after defeating Tom Gentzsch 7-5, 6-2. His progress gives Britain another live chance in the final round of qualifying.

Evans' singles run ends at Roehampton

There was also a significant farewell note to the day. Dan Evans' professional singles career came to an end in the second round of Wimbledon qualifying, as he was beaten by Australia's Tristan Schoolkate 7-5, 6-0.

Evans had kept his singles campaign alive earlier in the week, but Schoolkate pulled clear after edging the opening set. Evans is still expected to turn his attention to the Wimbledon doubles draw alongside Henry Searle.

Elsewhere for the British contingent, Esther Adeshina lost to Harmony Tan 6-2, 6-2, while Paul Jubb was beaten by Tomas Barrios Vera 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.
