Tarvet, Harris and Basing reach Wimbledon main draw as British qualifying push lands

Three British men have booked their places in the Wimbledon main draw after Oliver Tarvet, Billy Harris and Max Basing came through the final round of qualifying at Roehampton.

Tarvet sealed his return to the All England Club with a straight-sets win over Greece's Stefanos Sakellaridis, coming through 6-4, 6-2, 7-5. The 22-year-old also qualified last year, when he went on to win a main-draw match before facing Carlos Alcaraz on Centre Court.

Harris had to recover from a difficult opening set against China's Zhou Yi, but the British 31-year-old found his rhythm to win 1-6, 7-6(2), 6-2, 6-3. It sends him into the Wimbledon main draw for a third consecutive year and gives him useful match sharpness before the tournament begins next week.

Basing completed the British trio with the longest route through. The 23-year-old wildcard beat Switzerland's Remy Bertola 2-6, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 to reach a Grand Slam main draw for the first time. His result adds another home name to watch when the first-round schedule is confirmed.

Heather Watson came close to joining them but was beaten in the final round of women's qualifying, losing 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 to top seed Maria Timofeeva.

The qualifying results sharpen the British storyline before Friday's Wimbledon draw, with the main tournament beginning on Monday 29 June. Cameron Norrie and Emma Raducanu are among the seeded British players, while the qualifiers will now wait to learn where they land in the first-round match-ups.

With qualifying complete and the draw imminent, the build-up to Wimbledon has moved from preparation into proper tournament mode. For Tarvet, Harris and Basing, the next step is a main-draw opportunity on home grass.
