Muchova and Noskova set up all-Czech Wimbledon final as men’s semi-finals take centre stage

Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova will contest an all-Czech Wimbledon women’s final after both came through Thursday’s semi-finals on Centre Court.

Muchova, the No. 10 seed, beat Coco Gauff 6-2, 1-6, 7-6[10] in one of the matches of the tournament, saving match point in the deciding tie-break before reaching her first Wimbledon final. The result sends her into a second Grand Slam singles final, following her 2023 run at Roland Garros.

Noskova followed her compatriot into Saturday’s final with a calmer but no less significant win, defeating No. 12 seed Marta Kostyuk 6-4, 6-4 in 1 hour and 19 minutes. The 21-year-old broke in the final game of both sets and is now into her first Grand Slam final.

The final guarantees a first-time major champion and gives Wimbledon a rare same-nation women’s singles final. It also underlines the strength of Czech tennis on grass, with both finalists arriving after strong runs through a draw that had already lost several major names before the closing weekend.

Attention now turns to the men’s semi-finals on Friday. Centre Court is due to open with British wild card Arthur Fery against No. 2 seed Alexander Zverev from 13:30 BST, before defending champion and No. 1 seed Jannik Sinner faces No. 7 seed Novak Djokovic.

Fery’s run has been the home story of the second week, but Zverev brings the form and experience of a reigning French Open champion. The second semi-final carries its own weight: Sinner is trying to defend his Wimbledon title, while Djokovic continues his pursuit of another major final at the All England Club.

With the women’s final set and the men’s last four ready to play, Wimbledon’s final weekend now has a clear shape: new history on Saturday, and two heavyweight routes to Sunday’s men’s final still to be decided.
