Fery extends Wimbledon fairytale as Zverev, Kostyuk and Noskova complete semi-final line-ups

Arthur Fery’s remarkable Wimbledon run has carried him into the semi-finals after another composed Centre Court performance on Wednesday.

The British wildcard beat ninth seed Flavio Cobolli 6-4, 7-6(4), 6-0 to become one of the stories of the Championships, backing up his earlier breakthrough wins with a controlled quarter-final display. The result sets up a semi-final against second seed Alexander Zverev, who ended Taylor Fritz’s campaign 6-4, 6-4, 6-2.

Zverev’s win was emphatic and efficient, with Fritz struggling physically in the third set after taking a medical timeout for an apparent knee issue. It also means the men’s semi-final line-up is now complete: defending champion Jannik Sinner faces Novak Djokovic in one blockbuster, while Zverev meets Fery in the other.

The women’s draw also settled into its final four on Wednesday. Marta Kostyuk defeated Jasmine Paolini 6-3, 6-2 to reach her first Wimbledon semi-final, while Linda Noskova beat Elise Mertens 6-3, 7-5. Kostyuk and Noskova will meet for a place in the final, with Coco Gauff taking on Karolina Muchova in the other semi-final.

For British fans, Fery’s progress gives the second week a very different feel. A deep home run at SW19 always changes the mood around the grounds, but this one has been especially striking because it has come from a wildcard who has handled each step with increasing authority. Zverev will be a major step up, yet Fery has already turned this Wimbledon into a career-defining fortnight.

With both singles draws now down to four players, Thursday’s focus shifts to the semi-finals and the question of whether the established names can hold off a group of challengers who have gathered real momentum on the grass.
